Martha Ayala-Garcia and Samantha Petters Killed, Shu Wou Injured in Donley County Two-Vehicle Crash on US 287

Donley County, Texas (January 8, 2020) – Two people were killed, and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday night in Donley County, a local news source reported.

The fatal crash happened at about 8:20 p.m. on US 287, near Hedley.

DPS said Donald Gumfory, 47, of Burleson, was driving a 2015 Volvo truck tractor towing a semi-trailer westbound while Martha Ayala-Garcia, 30, of Fort Worth, was driving a Nissan Rogue eastbound.

Ayala-Garcia veered off the road to the south, over-corrected and lost control of the Rogue. She then traveled into westbound traffic facing northbound and was struck by the semi-truck.

 Ayala-Garcia and her passenger, Samantha Petters, 30, of Arlington, were declared dead at the scene.

Shu Wou, 34, of Arlington, who was also a passenger in the Rogue, was airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Gumfory was uninjured in the crash.

The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.
