Gonzales County, Texas (July 7, 2022) – Mona Nesbitt, 62, of Lubbock, was one of the four people killed Wednesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in Gonzales County.

The collision, which involved three truck-tractors with semi-trailers and three passenger vehicles, happened at around 11:22 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, on Interstate 10 near Waelder.

Wade Stagle, 57, of Remer, Minnesota, was driving a 2021 Volvo truck-tractor hauling a semi-trailer eastbound on Interstate 10 in the right lane when he failed to slow down near a construction area and hit a 2020 BMW driven by Nesbitt.

Stagle and his passenger, Christy Hoffer, 46, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, died at the scene. Nesbitt and one of two passengers in the BMW, only identified as an 11-year-old girl, were also pronounced dead at the scene.

A boy in the BMW was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital with serious injuries.

No other details were given.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
