Jorge Ramirez and Natasha Smith Injured in El Paso Multi-Vehicle Crash on Transmountain Road at Desert Boulevard

El Paso, Texas (April 16, 2021) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Wednesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in west El Paso, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened on April 14, on Transmountain Road at Desert Boulevard N.

Authorities said Ricardo Moreno Esparza, 46, of San Elizario, was driving a cement truck westbound on Transmountain Road when he experienced mechanical issues with his brakes and sounded his horn as he entered the intersection on a red light. He crashed into a tractor-trailer driven by Jose Nava Hinostrosa, 43, at the intersection.

Esparza then struck a Mitsubishi Montero driven Jorge Ramirez. The cement truck rolled over and collided with a Hyundai Elantra driven by Natasha Smith. The cement-filled barrel separated from the vehicle and crashed into a GMC Sierra driven by Roman Christopher Enriquez.

Esparza was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ramirez and Smith were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
