Rosa Trujillo Killed in Houston Crash on East Loop South Freeway

Houston, Texas – The woman who was killed Friday night in a crash involving an off-duty Houston police officer in Houston has been identified as Rosa Trujillo, 45, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 11:35 p.m., February 9, at 1500 East Loop South (East Interstate Highway 610).

Police said Trujillo was driving a silver Honda Accord northbound on the freeway, when, for unknown reasons, she failed to stay in a single lane and struck the elevated concrete on the freeway. The Honda continued and struck the off-duty Houston police officer’s white Chevrolet Tahoe which was providing traffic control with emergency lights activated inside a barricade of cones on the right shoulder of the freeway. The Honda then struck the concrete barrier and a utility trailer.

Trujillo was pronounced dead at the scene.

A male passenger in the Honda, 45, was transported to Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
