Summer Chester Killed in Houston Two-Vehicle Crash on North Freeway at Greens Road; Jonathan Vera Arrested

Houston, Texas (February 5, 2022) – A senior at Texas Southern University was killed on January 25 in a hit-and-run accident in Houston, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened at the intersection of North Freeway feeder road and Greens Road.

Police said Jonathan Vera, 20, was driving when he ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Summer Chester.

The force of the impact caused Chester’s car to roll over on the sidewalk.

Chester was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vera and his passengers fled the scene, but Vera was later arrested that night and taken into custody. He has been charged with manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid.

According to court records, Vera had been out of jail on bond for capital murder related to a violent home invasion in the Greenspoint area in 2017, where a 55-year-old homeowner was shot and killed.

The crash remains under investigation.
