Tonya Tindal Killed in Cherokee County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 110

Cherokee County, Texas (July 16, 2021) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Cherokee County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 4:50 p.m., July 15, on State Highway 110, about 3.5 miles north of New Summerfield.

DPS said Tonya Tindall, 62, of Rusk, was driving a 2017 Impala northbound when she lost control after passing another vehicle. The Impala then ran off the roadway to the east, overcorrected to the left, traveled into the southbound lane, and hit a 2021 Toyota Highlander.

Tindall was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Toyota driver, Joshua Meelkop, 25, and his passenger, Amanda Meelkop, 39, both of Whitehouse, were taken to Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital – Tyler in serious condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
