Wendell Sims Killed in Panola County Two-Vehicle Crash at Highway 79 North and FM 123

Panola County, Texas (August 18, 2020) – The person who was killed Friday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Panola County has been identified as Wendell Sims,63, of DeBerry, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 6:00 p.m., August 14, at the intersection of Highway 79 North and FM 123.

According to a preliminary investigation, Sims was stopped at the intersection in his 2003 Ford F-150 that was towing a trailer. He tried to turn left onto US 79 and failed to yield the right of way to a northbound 2014 Peterbilt towing a trailer in the right lane. The semi-truck driver took evasive action but ended up hitting the Ford.

Sims was declared dead at the scene.

The semi-truck driver, Christopher Morrison, 33, of Magnolia, Arkansas, was taken to UT Health – Carthage, for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
