One Injured in Lubbock DUI Car Accident on 50th Street
Lubbock, Texas (January 16, 2019) – One person was injured Friday evening in a hit-and-run accident in Lubbock, police said.
The crash happened at about 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 11 at Jake’s Sports Cafe, located off 50th Street and Slide.
Police received a report regarding two men, possibly intoxicated causing trouble at the location. When authorities arrived, the two men were in a vehicle which the driver allegedly refused to pull over. This caused a short chase.
During that pursuit, the suspect’s car collided with another vehicle at 50th Street and Salem. The driver of that vehicle sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital.
Moments later, the suspect crashed into a house on 50th street. Both the driver and a passenger fled on foot, but police caught the passenger, Rodney Ybarra Jr.
Ybarra Jr. was charged for public intoxication. Police are still searching for the driver.
The crash remains under investigation.
