One Killed and Two Injured in Arlington Two-Vehicle Crash on North Collins Street and Interstate 30; Bernida Collins Arrested

Arlington, Texas (November 8, 2021) – One person was killed, and two others were injured early Sunday morning in a DWI crash in Arlington, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 2:36 a.m., November 7, at the intersection of North Collins Street and the westbound Interstate 30 service road.

Police said Bernida Collins, 50, was driving southbound on North Collins Street when she ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into a Honda HR-V that was traveling through the intersection.

The Honda was being used as a ride-share vehicle.

Two backseat passengers in the HR-V were taken to the hospital with serious injuries where one of them, a 37-year-old man, later died. His name has not been released.

The Honda driver was treated for minor injuries.

Collins was also taken to the hospital. She was intoxicated at the time of the crash and will be charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

The police are investigating the crash.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
