Amarillo, Texas (August 30, 2020) – One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash Saturday night in Amarillo, according to police.

The fatal crash happened around 8:49 p.m., August 29, at the intersection of River Road and St. Francis Avenue.

Police said a 39-year-old man was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis northbound on River Road while a Chevrolet Silverado was heading westbound on St. Francis Avenue.

The Grand Marquis ran a red light at the intersection and was hit on the passenger side by the Silverado.

The impact caused both vehicles to spin through the intersection, and the Mercury struck a Dodge Ram that was stopped at the light.

A passenger in the Mercury was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital, where he later died.

The Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department is investigating the crash.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
