One Killed in Houston Three-Vehicle Crash on Airport Boulevard; Randolph Lee Carpenter Jr. Charged

Houston, Texas (September 1, 2021) – One person was killed Sunday evening in a three-vehicle crash in Houston, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 5:50 p.m., August 29, in the 7500 block of Airport Boulevard.

Police said Randolph Lee Carpenter, Jr., 58, was driving a red Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck eastbound at a high rate of speed and was fleeing the scene of another crash where he had struck a white Toyota Camry when he rear-ended an eastbound silver Nissan Altima. Both vehicles remained stuck as they continued eastbound, where the Nissan rear-ended a tan Toyota Camry.  

The force of the impact caused the Camry to cross an esplanade and flip onto its side.

The Nissan driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger in the Nissan was taken to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center with head trauma and broken legs.  

The occupants of the Camry were taken to Clear Lake Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

Carpenter was evaluated at the scene by a DRE officer and was found to have been impaired. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.

The police are investigating the crash.
