17-Year-Old Seriously Injured in Odessa Two-Vehicle Crash on IH-20; Lucio Flores-Lopez Arrested

Odessa, Texas (May 4, 2021) – A 17-year-old was seriously injured last month in a DUI crash in Odessa, according to the police.

The crash happened on April 22, in the 2100 block of East IH-20.

Police said Lucio Flores-Lopez, 49, was driving a Buick Enclave at a high rate of speed when he crashed into an 18-wheeler.

Flores-Lopez and a 17-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital, where the passenger was later taken to a Lubbock hospital with serious injuries.

Flores-Lopez was arrested and has been charged with Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a third-degree felony.

The police are investigating the crash.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.
