Mary Shoemaker Killed, Marlow Charlton Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on SH 135 in Smith County

Mary Shoemaker Killed and Marlow Charlton Injured in Smith County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 135

Arp, Texas (April 7, 2022) – One person was killed and another was injured early Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Smith County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 4:10 a.m., April 6, on State Highway 135, about 1 mile northeast of Arp.

DPS said Marlow Charlton, 60, of Overton, was driving a Mack truck towing a trailer southbound on the highway while Mary V. Shoemaker, 65, of Arp, was driving a pickup truck northbound.

Shoemaker, for an unknown reason, veered into the oncoming lane, hit the Mack truck, and went under the trailer.

Shoemaker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charlton was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
