Daniel Schaefer Killed in Comanche Pedestrian Accident on State Highway 36 near US Highway 67

Comanche, Texas (June 26, 2023) – A man was killed Saturday night in a pedestrian accident in Comanche, according to the authorities.

The deadly accident happened around 11:58 p.m., June 24, on State Highway 36 near US Highway 67.

Authorities said 31-year-old Eric Davis was driving a 2015 Dodge Avenger southbound on the highway and was attempting to flee from Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Deputies for a felony offense.

Two other vehicles were in a parking lot near the intersection, and a man was trying to attach a tow chain between the two vehicles and was laying under a car as the Dodge approached.

Davis drove over the overpass at high speeds, ran a red light, lost control of the Dodge, and struck the two vehicles in the parking lot.

The man who was attaching the tow chain between the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 63-year-old Daniel Schaefer of Comanche.

Davis was taken to a local medical center, where he was treated and released. He was then booked into jail.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
