One Killed and One Injured in Kaufman County Pedestrian Crash on Interstate Highway 20

Kaufman County, Texas (August 24, 2021) – According to the Texas DPS, one person was killed, and another was injured Saturday night in a pedestrian accident in eastern Kaufman County.

The deadly accident happened around 11:59 p.m., August 21, on Interstate Highway 20, near mile marker 511.

DPS said a Dodge Journey and a Toyota Sienna collided on the highway, causing the Journey to be disabled in the eastbound lane.

The driver of an 18-wheeler saw the crash and stopped in the travel lane to assist.

One of the three occupants of the Journey got out of the vehicle and approached the 18-wheeler driver. As they were discussing the crash, a pickup truck driver tried to swerve around the 18-wheeler and failed to see the Journey and the two individuals who were standing in the roadway.

The pickup struck the Journey driver and the 18-wheeler driver.

The 18-wheeler driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released.

The Journey driver was taken to Baylor Medical Center in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws or statutes which were violated.
