Crystal Pineda Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Crosstown Expressway in Corpus Christi

28-Year-Old Crystal Pineda ID’d as 1 of 2 Women Killed in Corpus Christi Crash on Crosstown Expressway (State Highway 286) near Morgan Avenue

Corpus Christi, Texas (June 28, 2022) – Authorities have identified one of the two women who died following a wrong-way crash early Friday morning on the Crosstown Expressway in Corpus Christi as Crystal Pineda, 28.

The fatal crash occurred at around 2:00 a.m. Friday, June 24 on State Highway 286 near Morgan Avenue.

Pineda reportedly got onto Crosstown Expressway and drove southbound in the northbound lanes at a high rate of speed. Moments later, Pineda’s vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle.

Pineda died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, an 18-year-old woman, was trapped in the wreckage and was freed by emergency crews. She was then taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

It is still unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

No other details about the crash were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
