Elizabeth Johanson, Adam Johanson and Jane Johanson ID’d as 3 Members of Mississippi Family Killed in Wheeler County Crash on Interstate 40 near Shamrock
Wheeler County, Texas (January 5, 2019) – The three members of a Mississippi family who were killed Thursday morning in a traffic accident that also injured three others in Wheeler County have been identified as Elizabeth Johanson, 35, of Cleveland, Mississippi, Adam Johanson, 35, and Jane Johanson, 10, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The horrific accident happened at an unspecified time Thursday, January 3 on Interstate 40 near Shamrock.
The DPS said Elizabeth was driving her SUV at an unsafe speed for the slick conditions of the road when she lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV then crossed the center median into westbound lanes and was broadsided by a recreational vehicle occupied by a California couple, which was heading westbound.
Elizabeth and her husband, Adam, were transported to the hospital and were later pronounced dead at the hospital. Their daughter Jane was declared deceased at the scene of the accident.
Three other juvenile passengers in the SUV, ages, 3, 5 and 12, were hospitalized. The 12-year-old child was taken to Shamrock General Hospital with minor injuries where she was treated and later released to a family member.
The 5-year-old child and 3-year-old child were taken to Shamrock General Hospital and later airlifted to Northwest Hospital in Amarillo with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the recreational vehicle, identified as Dennis Olson, 51, of California, and his passenger, Theresia Olson, 49, of California, were both uninjured in the accident.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
