9-Year-Old Daminik Lopez Killed in Austin Two-Vehicle Crash on East Parmer Lane; Cain Perez Estrada Charged

Austin, Texas (April 7, 2020) – A child was killed, and a man has been charged following a DUI crash that happened last week Monday in northeastern Austin, according to the Austin Police Department.

The crash happened just before 9:20 p.m. March 30, in the 5500 block of East Parmer Lane.

Police said a silver 2009 Hummer H3 was traveling southbound across the eastbound lanes when the driver failed to yield to a gray 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML3 driven by Cain Perez Estrada, 34.

The ML3 then struck the passenger’s side of the Hummer.

The two juvenile passengers in the Hummer were taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas for treatment. One of the children, Daminik Lopez, 9, succumbed to her injuries on April 4. The other child had critical injuries and underwent surgery.

Estrada was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. After being released from the hospital, he was arrested for DWI.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Daminik Lopez.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.
