Two Killed in Kennedy County Two-Vehicle Crash on US Highway 77

Kennedy County, Texas (February 17, 2021) – Two people were killed, and five others were injured Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash in Kennedy County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 11:20 p.m., February 13, on US Highway 77, two miles south of Norias.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Honda Civic was disabled in the right southbound lane of the highway, and two of the five passengers in the car got out and attempted to push the vehicle off the roadway.

A Chevy Traverse, which was also traveling southbound in the right lane of the highway, a non-lit area, rear-ended the Civic and pinned the two people who were pushing the Civic.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 5-year-old was taken to the Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, where he later died.

One male, two female passengers, and one male pedestrian from the Civic were taken to Valley Baptist in critical condition. The Traverse driver was also taken to Valley Baptist Hospital in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
