Barbara Payne Killed in San Marcos Two-Vehicle Crash at McCarty Lane and Hunter Road

San Marcos, Texas (August 13, 2022) – According to the police, a woman was killed Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in San Marcos.

The deadly accident happened around 4:45 p.m., August 11, at the intersection of McCarty Lane and Hunter Road.

Police said a White Kia was traveling inbound on Hunter Road, while a silver Toyota Scion was traveling outbound.

The Toyota attempted to turn left onto McCarty Lane and collided with the Kia.

The Toyota driver, Barbara Payne, 77, of San Marcos, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kia driver, Steven Peña, 38, of Prairie Lea, was driving while intoxicated and was taken to Ascension Seton Hays in Kyle for treatment. Criminal charges are pending against Peña.

The crash remains under investigation.
