Bicyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run on Abney Avenue in Lufkin

One Killed in Lufkin Bicycle Accident on Abney Avenue

Lufkin, Texas (July 31, 2023) – A bicyclist was killed Sunday morning in a hit-and-run accident in Lufkin, according to the authorities.

The deadly accident happened around 6:17 a.m., July 30, in the 900 block of Abney Avenue.

Authorities said a black SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crossed all three lanes and hit a bicyclist who was traveling westbound.

The bicyclist was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.

The SUV driver fled the scene after the accident. The authorities are looking for the SUV, which might have damage to the driver’s side headlight.

An investigation into the crash is underway. Anyone with any information or video is asked to call the Lufkin Police Department at 936-633-0356.
