Ciandra Reed Hit, Killed by Intoxicated Driver on Katy Freeway in Houston

Ciandra Reed Killed in Houston Pedestrian Accident on Katy Freeway

Houston, Texas (October 25, 2021) – According to the police, a woman was fatally hit by an intoxicated driver early Sunday morning in west Houston.

The deadly accident happened around 3:00 a.m., October 24, on the I-10 Katy Freeway between Dairy Ashford Road and Kirkwood Road.

Police said a white Toyota Sedan carrying three women was parked on the shoulder of the highway when the driver, Ciandra Reed, 29, got out to check on a sick passenger.

A man was driving a Hyundai sedan eastbound when he exited the main lanes and rear-ended Reed’s car. Reed was thrown and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two women were uninjured in the accident. The sick passenger, however, was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition.

The coupe driver was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The police are investigating the crash.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
