Cyrys Wingate Killed in Carson County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 207

Carson County, Texas (October 14, 2023) – One person was killed Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Carson County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 6:52 p.m., October 12, on State Highway 207, approximately nine miles south of Panhandle.

DPS said a 2009 Lincoln Town Car SD was traveling northbound when it failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic and attempted to turn left onto the Interstate 40 service road. It turned into the path of a southbound 2016 Mack truck tractor towing a semi-trailer.

The semi-truck driver tried to avoid the Lincoln by swerving and braking, but he could not prevent the collision, and the semi crashed into the Lincoln’s passenger side.

The impact forced both vehicles off the roadway. The semi ended up facing southbound, upright in the ditch west of the highway, while the Lincoln came to a rest on its left side facing westbound, underneath the semi-truck.

The Lincoln driver, Cyrys Wingate, 70, of Hernando, Mississippi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi-truck driver, Michael Britten, 65, of Groom, was uninjured in the crash.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The road conditions were dry and clear, and the posted speed limit was 50 mph.

The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
