Deputy Injured in Hit-and-Run on Highway 59 in Montgomery County; Alejandro Zair Arrested

Montgomery County, Texas – A Montgomery County deputy was injured on Sunday in a hit-and-run accident in Montgomery County, according to the deputies.

The crash happened on April 7, on Highway 59 near the FM 1314 exit.

Deputies said a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy had tried to pull over Alejandro Zair, 18, from Porter, who was driving a Red Camaro, for a traffic violation on Sorters Road. Zair fled and was pursued by the deputy. A Precinct 4 deputy joined the pursuit which went on Kingwood Drive, Northpark Drive, and onto Highway 59.

Zair collided with the deputy’s patrol vehicle near the FM 1314 exit on Highway 59. The force of the impact sent the deputy’s vehicle airborne, causing it to leave the roadway and crash into an embankment. The vehicle was totaled. The Camaro also struck a telephone pole before Zair fled on foot.

The deputy sustained a broken nose, and bruised ribs, and had to receive stitches and staples.

Zair was taken into custody Sunday morning and is facing charges of felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle, with an additional outstanding felony warrant for a similar offense in Harris County.

An investigation is underway.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
