Deputy Matthew Pierson Killed in Car Crash on Highway 147 in San Augustine County

Deputy Matthew Pierson Killed in San Augustine County Two-Vehicle Crash at Highway 147 and Highway 103 

San Augustine County, Texas (August 30, 2023) – According to the authorities, a Shelby County deputy was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in San Augustine County.

The fatal crash happened around 7:30 a.m., August 29, at the intersection of Highway 147 and Highway 103.

Authorities said a 2015 Peterbilt semi was traveling westbound on Highway 103 while Deputy Matthew Pierson was heading northbound on Highway 147 in his unit. 

Deputy Pierson failed to yield to the semi and collided with the trailer portion of the truck.

Pierson was killed in the crash.

The driver of the semi was uninjured in the crash.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
