Diana Carrazel Gonzalez Killed in Refugio County Two-Vehicle Crash on US 77

Refugio County, Texas (January 17, 2021) – One person was killed, and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday night in Refugio County, north of Refugio, according to Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 10:34 p.m., January 15, on US 77.

DPS said a 2007 Ford F-150 and a 2011 Ford F-150 were traveling southbound on the highway.

The 2011 Ford attempted to pass the 2007 Ford F-150, taking action to avoid hitting a wild animal in the roadway. This caused the driver to make an unsafe lane change and hit the 2007 Ford F-150.

The force of the impact caused the 2007 Ford F-150 to veer off the roadway and overturn, ejecting the driver. The victim, Diana Carrazel Gonzalez, 53, of Pharr, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male passenger in the 2007 F-150 was airlifted to Spohn Shoreline in Corpus Christi with severe injuries.

The driver of the 2011 F-150 was uninjured in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws, or statutes which were violated.
