Eddie Saenz Killed, Robin Nelson Injured in Crash on SH 349 in Martin County

Eddie Saenz Killed, Robin Nelson Injured in Martin County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 349

Martin County, Texas (December 31, 2022) – One person was killed, and another was injured Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash in Martin County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened just after 11:00 p.m., December 29, on State Highway 349 near mile marker 306.

DPS said a vehicle carrying a trailer was traveling southbound on the highway and slowed down to make a right turn into a private drive. Another southbound vehicle failed to slow down and rear-ended the trailer of the first vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the trailer, Eddie Garcia Saenz, 38, of Mathis, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, Robin Jay Nelson, 46, of Lamesa, Texas, was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

The weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
