Gary Boaz Killed, Esdras Amaya Injured in Pedestrian Accident on University Avenue in Lubbock

Gary Boaz Killed and Esdras Amaya Seriously Injured in Lubbock Pedestrian Accident on University Avenue

Lubbock, Texas (April 11, 2022) – One person was killed, and another was seriously injured Sunday morning in a vehicle-pedestrian accident in Lubbock, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 8:55 a.m., April 10, in the 5700 block of University Avenue.

Police said Esdras Amaya, 42, was driving an SUV southbound when he crossed over into the northbound lanes and onto the median, where he struck Gary Boaz, 60, who was walking in the area.

The SUV continued traveling southbound before it collided with a stop sign and on into a signal light pole at the intersection of 58th Street and University Avenue. 

Both Boaz and Amaya were taken to University Medical Center, where Boaz was pronounced dead.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating the crash.
