Hedley Rivera, Jessica and 1-Year-Old Darwin Hospitalized After Houston Multi-Vehicle Crash on Little York Overpass at I-45

Houston, Texas (May 26, 2020) – Three people were injured Thursday night after their truck flew off an overpass in Houston, according to police.

The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. May 21, in the northbound lanes on the Little York overpass at North Freeway.

Police said two vehicles were racing on the North Freeway, weaving in and out of traffic, when they caused a truck to collide with two other vehicles.

The truck flew off the overpass following the impact. One of the other two vehicles caught fire. The two racing vehicles fled the scene.

Good Samaritans were able to pull a man, Hedley Rivera, and his 1-year-old son Darwin, from the truck.

Firefighters had to extricate Rivera’s wife, Jessica, from the truck.

Rivera, Jessica, and Darwin were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center for treatment.

Rivera had broken ribs and chest pain. Darwin only sustained minor scratches and has since been released from the hospital.

Jessica suffered a broken spine, neck, and arm and has undergone two surgeries.

The police are still looking for the drivers who were racing.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information that can assist in the investigation is urged to call Houston police.
