Taliah Mims and Jon Coffey Injured in Palo Pinto County Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 20

Santo, Texas (December 10, 2022) – Two people were injured Friday afternoon in a wrong-way crash in Santo, Palo Pinto County, according to the authorities.

The crash was reported around 2:00 p.m., December 9, near the intersection of Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 281.

Authorities said a Volvo tractor-trailer was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of the interstate when it collided with a charter bus carrying 32 students, staff, and faculty from the Gunter ISD, which was heading to a high school football playoff game in Abilene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 64-year-old Jon Coffey, was taken to Weatherford Regional Hospital in an unknown condition. He might have suffered a medical issue that caused him to drive the wrong way on the highway.

The charter bus driver, 41-year-old Taliah Mims of Mansfield, was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
