Herardo Canales Killed in Head-On Crash on SH 349 in Midland County

Herardo Canales ID’d as Man Killed in Midland County Crash on SH 349

Midland County, Texas (August 10, 2023) – The man who died in a head-on collision early Tuesday morning in Midland County has been identified as 37-year-old Herardo Canales, of La Feria, Texas.

The Texas Highway Patrol said the two-vehicle wreck happened at around 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, September 5 on SH 349, approximately 9.5 miles south of Midland.

Canales was driving northbound on SH 349 when, for unknown reasons, it drifted into the southbound lanes and hit the left side of a 2018 Kenworth with a trailer, driven by 65-year-old Michael Artist Ballard, of Snyder, Texas.

Canales who was wearing a seatbelt was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Ballard was not injured.

The weather was clear, and road conditions were dry at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit is 75 mph.

The crash remains under investigation.
