Galveston County Sheriff’s Deputy Airlifted, Darius Gilbert Arrested Following Galveston County DUI Crash at Crystal Beach
Galveston County, Texas (May 23, 2022) – Darius Danzell Gilbert, 22, was arrested after a crash that injured a Galveston County sheriff’s deputy during the Jeep Weekend event in Galveston County early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. on May 22 at Crystal Beach.
A vehicle driven by Gilbert reportedly hit the deputy. The officer nearly went through the windshield after the crash.
The deputy sustained two broken legs, a broken arm and head injuries and was airlifted to UTMB in Galveston, where he is expected to undergo surgery.
Gilbert was booked into jail on suspicion of DUI. His bail was set at $100,000.
No additional information was available.
The crash remains under investigation.
