Bee County, Texas (June 11, 2020) – A man was killed in a motorcycle crash Wednesday afternoon in Bee County, according to troopers.

The fatal crash occurred around 1:24 p.m. June 10, at the intersection of US 181 and SH 259, one mile south of Skidmore.

DPS said 55-year-old Ernest Barrera, of Beeville, was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on US 181 when he attempted to make a right turn onto southbound SH 359.

A 2001 Monaco Coach MotorHome pulling a 2006 Nissan Xterra was heading northbound on US 181 and was coming to a stop at the intersection.

Barrera failed to control his speed in the curve and hit the left tire of the MotorHome.

Barrera was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Motor Home was uninjured in the crash.

The DPS troopers are investigating the crash.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ernest Barrera.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases, the accident results in death.
