James Wheeler Among 2 Victims In Fatal Abilene Car Crash on Highway 83/84 near Kirby Lake
Abilene, Texas (May 5, 2022) – One of the two people who were killed Wednesday night in a two-vehicle crash in Abilene has been identified as James Henry Wheeler, 96, of Abilene.
The fatal crash happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, on Highway 83/84 near Kirby Lake.
Witnesses told the authorities that Wheeler was driving a sedan in the wrong direction on the highway at a high rate of speed, causing multiple vehicles to move out of his way.
The sedan ultimately collided head-on with an SUV driven by Roxanne Rivero Medina, 35, of Abilene.
Wheeler and Medina were pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers were sole occupants of their respective vehicles.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
