Donley County, Texas (May 24, 2021) – According to the Texas DPS, a woman was killed, and a man was injured in a train crash Friday night in Donley County.

The deadly crash happened around 11:00 p.m., May 21, on County Road 8, about 3 miles west of Clarendon.

DPS said Jennifer Bentley, 35, of Amarillo, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Impala southbound when she drove onto the railroad tracks into the path of an oncoming freight train.

The Impala was then struck on the passenger’s side by the train. The impact tossed the Impala to the northeast side of the railroad tracks.

Bentley was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 41-year-old passenger, a Wichita Falls man, was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo in critical condition.

Both Bentley and the man were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws, or statutes which were violated.
