Jennifer Portillo, Maria Estrada, Alberto Rodriguez and Kevin Rodriguez Killed in Concan Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 1050 and U.S. Highway 83

Concan, Texas (July 2, 2020) – Four people were killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Concan, south of Leakey near Garner Park, according to DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 7:08 p.m., June 28, at the intersection of FM 1050 and U.S. Highway 83 North.

According to a preliminary investigation, Jennifer Portillo, 25, was driving a 2015 Toyota SUV westbound on FM 1050 when she failed to yield the right of way while turning onto U.S. Highway 83. The Toyota was then struck by a 2012 Cub Cadet tractor semi-truck towing a trailer that was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 83.

Portillo, and her three passengers, Maria Estrada, 36; Alberto Rodriguez, 43; and Kevin Rodriguez, 11, all from Houston, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other passengers in the Toyota, a 16-year-old girl, and a 14-year-old girl, were taken to a San Antonio hospital with incapacitating injuries.

An 11-month-old child who was in the car seat was taken to Uvalde Memorial Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

The semi-truck driver was taken to Uvalde Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
