Joaquin Puente Killed, Charles Rodriguez and Blanca Jones Injured in San Patricio County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 188

San Patricio County, Texas (November 28, 2023) – One person was killed and two others were injured Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash in San Patricio County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 6:36 a.m., November 27, on State Highway 188.

DPS said a 2001 Buick Century driven by 22-year-old Joaquin Puente of Crystal City was traveling eastbound on the highway while a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by 71-year-old Charles Rodriguez of Sinton, was heading westbound.

Puente crossed over into the westbound lane and the Century struck the Ram with its front left, causing the Ram to roll off the roadway into a ditch and into the eastbound lane. The Century came to a stop in the eastbound lane.

Puente was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rodriguez and his passenger, 53-year-old Blanca Jones of Cary, NC, were taken to the Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital with minor injuries.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
