Roy Lewis Woods Killed in Van Zandt County Motorcycle Crash on FM 279

Van Zandt County, Texas (September 27, 2023) – One person was killed and another was injured Saturday afternoon in a crash in Van Zandt County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 4:32 p.m., September 23, on Farm to Market 279, 3 miles west of Edom.

DPS said a 2022 Harley Davidson Motorcycle was traveling westbound on the highway when it failed to negotiate a curve and struck a westbound 2012 Ford F-150.

The motorcyclist, Roy Lewis Woods, 58, of Ben Wheeler, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ford driver, Karla Kay Coyle, 63, of Brownsboro, sustained non-incapacitating injuries in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
