Richard Surface, Janet Surface Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 82 in Sherman

Richard Surface and Janet Surface Killed in Sherman Crash on U.S. 82 near FM 1417
Sherman, Texas (April 18, 2019) – Two people were killed earlier this month in a two-vehicle crash in Sherman, police said.
The crash happened at about 7:00 p.m. April 2, on U.S. Highway 82 near FM 1417.
Police said 19-year-old Benjamin Ordaz was driving a pickup truck when he rear-ended a Kia Sportage driven by 68-year-old Richard Surface.
Richard and his passenger, 71-year-old Janet Surface were airlifted to a Dallas hospital where Janet died on April 4, and Richard died on April 6.
Ordaz was indicted on Tuesday on two counts of manslaughter and two counts of criminally negligent homicide.
Authorities said excessive speed and recklessness were factors in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
