John Prince, Marlena Toomey and Two Children Injured in Fatal Crash on FM 1293 at FM 1003 in Hardin County
John Prince, Marlena Toomey, 10-Year-Old Boy, and 13-Year-Old Girl Injured in Fatal Hardin County Crash on FM 1293 at FM 1003 near Honey Island
Hardin County, Texas (January 22, 2020) – Four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that left a man dead early Tuesday morning in Hardin County near Honey Island, according to the DPS.
The fatal crash was reported around 7:15 a.m., January 21, at the intersection of FM 1293 and FM 1003 South.
DPS said a 2009 GMC SUV was heading westbound on FM 1293 while a 2005 Ford pickup truck was traveling eastbound on FM 1293.
The driver of the SUV attempted to make a left turn onto FM 1003 South and turned in front of the Ford. The Ford struck the passenger-side of the SUV.
The force of the impact caused the SUV to spin counter-clockwise, ejecting Enrique Gonzalez, 48, of Kountze, who was a passenger in the vehicle. The Ford traveled off the roadway and came to rest in a ditch.
Gonzalez was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries where he later died.
The SUV driver, John Prince, 83, of Kountze, was taken to St. Elizabeth with serious injuries.
A passenger in the Ford, Marlena Toomey, 32, of Livingston, and her 10-year-old son, were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Toomey’s 13-year-old daughter was airlifted to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
