Johnny Powell Killed in Longview Pedestrian Accident on Interstate 20

Authorities Identify Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Tractor-Trailer on Interstate 20 in Longview as Johnny Powell

Longview, Texas (May 17, 2022) – Authorities have identified the man who died after being struck by a tractor-trailer early Monday morning near Longview as Johnny M. Powell.

According to a report by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the deadly crash happened at around 3:34 a.m. Monday, May 16, on Interstate 20, just south of Longview.

Powell, a resident of Jackson, Michigan, was driving eastbound on Interstate 20 when his vehicle veered off the road to the south, possibly due to unsafe speed for the wet roadway.

Powell reportedly walked northbound to Interstate 20 and was hit by the tractor-trailer.

Powell died at the scene.

It was not immediately known if the driver of the tractor-trailer was hurt in the collision.

The road was wet and it was raining at the time of the accident.

Further details regarding the crash were not immediately provided.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
