Juan Gutierrez ID’d as Bicyclist Killed in Katy Crash on South Mason Road near Cimarron Parkway

Katy, Texas (August 30, 2023) – The bicyclist who died after being struck by a vehicle on Monday night in Katy has been identified as 66-year-old Juan Gutierrez.

The deadly crash happened at around 11:22 p.m. Monday, August 28, in the 900 block of South Mason Road near Cimarron Parkway.

Authorities said a vehicle, described as a Ford pickup truck, was heading southbound in the outside lane when the driver failed to pass to the left safely and struck Gutierrez, who was riding his bicycle in the outside lane.

Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver did not stop to render aid to Gutierrez and fled the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
