Karen Smith Injured in Fatal Crash on Highway 152 in Moore County

Karen Smith Airlifted after Moore County Crash on Highway 152 near Dumas

Moore County, Texas (April 9, 2023) – Karen Smith, 31, of Fairfield, Montana, was injured after she was involved in a crash that claimed two lives early Saturday morning in Moore County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The incident happened at around 3:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8 on Highway 152 approximately 17.5 miles east of Dumas.

DPS said a 2015 Chrysler 200 was heading eastbound on Highway 152 while a 2004 Ford Taurus was traveling westbound on Highway 152. The Ford drifted into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with the Chrysler.

After the collision, the Ford came to a stop in the eastbound lane while the Chrysler stopped on the improved shoulder facing northbound.

The Ford’s driver, identified as Jeremy Lamb, 45, of Fairfield, Montana, and the Chrysler’s driver, identified as Matthew Smith, 25, of Borger, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Karen Smith who was a passenger in the Ford was airlifted to Amarillo Northwest Texas hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lamb and his passenger, Karen Smith, were wearing seat belts, while Matthew Smith was not wearing the seatbelt.

The posted speed limit was 75 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the crash.
