Karla Barraza Killed in Schertz Four-Vehicle Crash on IH-35

Schertz, Texas (December 13, 2020) – A 21-year-old woman was killed in a four-vehicle crash Saturday night in Schertz, according to police.

The fatal crash happened around 10:51 p.m., December 12, in the 21500 block of IH-35 southbound.

Police said a Volkswagen Jetta was disabled on the highway, and the driver was outside the vehicle, near the front, when it was struck by a Nissan Rogue.

The force of the impact threw the Volkswagen driver into the northbound lanes where she was struck by a passing car.

The Volkswagen was then pushed into a southbound Chevrolet Z71.

The Volkswagen driver, Karla Barraza, of University City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Nissan driver, Amankumar Patel, 26, of San Antonio, was evaluated and released.

Officers said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons for driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
