Katelyn Carter Killed in Gonzales County Two-Vehicle Crash at FM 3282 and U.S. 183

Gonzales County, Texas (February 2, 2022) – A Gonzales High School student was killed early Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Gonzales County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash occurred around 5:57 a.m., January 25, at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 3282 and U.S. 183, about 2-3 miles south of Gonzales.

DPS said Katelyn Carter, 16, of Gonzales, was driving a 2019 Nissan Frontier and was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection while a Stockdale man was driving a 2007 Peterbilt truck-tractor and trailer southbound on US 183 approaching the intersection.

Carter pulled out onto US 183 in an attempt to turn and might have failed to yield the right of way to the truck-tractor, causing the tractor-trailer to hit the driver’s side of the Nissan.

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured in the crash.

The weather at the time of the crash was foggy and the road conditions were wet.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
