Dallas, Texas (December 5, 2023) – A firefighter was critically injured Sunday morning after he was struck by an alleged drunk driver while riding his motorcycle in Dallas, according to the authorities.

The crash happened around 2:45 a.m., December 3, in the 5500 block of Columbia Avenue.

Authorities said Kenneth Burke, a longtime Dallas firefighter, was riding his motorcycle off-duty eastbound when a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Crescencio Del Rio Rodriguez, 51, turned left into a vacant lot and crashed into him.

Burke was subsequently run over by Rodriguez’s truck. He was taken to the hospital with injuries to his head, spleen, pancreas, and liver.

Rodriguez failed the field sobriety tests and had a breathalyzer reading of 0.168. He was arrested at the scene and is facing intoxication assault with a vehicle with serious bodily injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
