Marcellia Jones and Katashia Porter Killed, Genous Jackson Injured in Smith County Two-Vehicle Crash on SH 31
Smith County, Texas (May 11, 2021) – According to the DPS, four people were killed, and another was seriously injured Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision in Smith County.
The fatal crash happened around 4:43 p.m., May 9, on State Highway 31, west of Kilgore.
DPS said a 2003 Nissan Maxima was traveling eastbound when it crossed into the westbound lane and crashed head-on into a 2007 Cadillac DTS.
The Nissan driver, Marcellia Jones, 36, of Henderson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cadillac driver, Genous Lee Jackson, 44, of Longview, was taken to UT-Health East Texas – Tyler in serious condition.
A passenger in the Cadillac, Katashia Shari Porter, 34, of Arlington, was pronounced at the scene. A 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl were also pronounced dead at the scene.
The troopers are investigating the crash.
