Maria Elena Torres ID’d as Woman Killed in El Paso Pedestrian Accident at Socorro Road and Americas Avenue

El Paso, Texas (October 16, 2019) – The woman who was fatally hit by a vehicle Monday night in El Paso has been identified as Maria Elena Torres, 67, according to the police.

The accident took place at about 6:47 p.m. on October 14, in the 9500 block of Socorro Road at Americas Avenue.

Police said Niobe Adame, 44, was driving a 2014 Ford Explorer westbound on Socorro Road when she made a turn to go northbound on Americas Avenue and hit Torres who was crossing at a marked crosswalk.

Torres was declared dead at the scene.

Officers said failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk was the reason for the accident.

An investigation is underway.
