Mario Sumano Among 2 Victims of Fatal Head-On Crash on FM 506 in Cameron County

Cameron County, Texas (April 21, 2022) – Mario Antonio Solis Sumano, 41, of Weslaco, was among two people who were killed Wednesday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Cameron County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash happened at about 5:49 p.m. on April 20 on FM 506, just south of the Cameron and Willacy County line.

The DPS said a white Chevrolet Spark was traveling northbound on FM 506 on the wrong side of the road in a no-passing zone when it collided head-on with a silver Chevrolet Camaro.

Sumano, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet Spark, died at the crash site. The driver of the Chevrolet Spark, identified as Benjamin Caballero, 36, of Weslaco, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

A second passenger in the Chevrolet Spark, identified as a minor, suffered head injuries and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet Camaro sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

The DPS is investigating the accident.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
