Nakishia Samuels Arrested after Lufkin Pedestrian Crash That Injured Police Officer on Timberland Drive
Lufkin, Texas (May 8, 2019) – The hit-and-run driver who caused a traffic accident that injured a Lufkin Police officer Saturday afternoon in Lufkin has been arrested.
The hit-and-run pedestrian accident happened at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4 on Timberland Drive.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Officer Seth Thompson was out of his marked patrol unit with emergency lights activated investigating a previous crash in the Cox Muffler parking lot when a northbound 2006 Toyota SUV veered off the roadway to the left and struck Thompson.
Thompson was taken to UT Health Tyler Hospital with major injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as Nakishia Samuels, 40, of Lufkin, did not stop to render aid to the officer and fled the scene.
Samuels later turned herself in. She arrested and booked into the Angelina County jail on possession of a dangerous drug (Class A misdemeanor), possession of a controlled substance-schedule 3 (Class A misdemeanor) and driving while license invalid-intoxication (Class B misdemeanor).
An investigation into the crash is underway.
